THE FULL STORY

what is fast fashion?

Fast fashion refers to brands that produce high volumes of clothing throughout the year. Most brands are now making clothes at a fraction of the price they used to. As a result, consumers can update their wardrobes very quickly and affordably.  But this over-consumption of cheaply-made clothes is leading to the huge growth of textile waste, pollution, and the depletion of natural resources. It is raising social issues that we can no longer ignore, such as human rights violations. The best thing we can do, as consumers, is to stop supporting this industry. We should avoid fast fashion brands and start supporting sustainable clothing brands instead. The number of clothes we buy is increasing, but we are wearing them less than ever before. During the past two decades, fast fashion has experienced explosive growth.  It's not fair for low-income shoppers to struggle to afford sustainable brands if fast fashion is their only option. It is only because of overconsumption that these fast fashion brands exist. It's about how much we buy as consumers, and in the United States, many of us have too much.
